Despite the fact that Luomo’s music beats to a silicon heart, there is always something tacitly organic about his output – with the icy electronic creases and gliding synths bringing to mind a mist shrouded pine forest… Possibly down to the fact that Finland’s Luomo (aka Vladislav Delay) is a lumberjack when not in the studio, this mental image of suspended nature pervades throughout ‘Paper Tigers’; from the diffused beats and dub-noir of the title track, through to the closing dew shimmer of ‘Make Believe’.

This album is at the frontier of dub and electronica. Ver smooth, with delays and quite textured, but also very smooth and somehow relaxing. If you like either genre, you shold definitively lend it an ear. Thibaut Devigne

«Soudain l'homme se réveille
au milieu de la nuit
il est saisi par le malaise
et écoute malgré lui
le silencieux vacarme de l'angoisse
le bruit qui ne fait pas de bruit
le silence qui hurle à la mort
dans le grand coquillage de la nuit (...)»

This may be my all-time favourite SUNN O))) LP. Hell-O)))-Ween is excellent, SUB-BASS and then some. BassAliens begins pretty chilled, develops a twang to it similar to Earth circa Hex, then becomes an organic yet alien sound which could soundtrack the creature in John Carpenter's The Thing. I really like the choral elements to Decay2. Always after listening to this LP I'm in the mood for Unearthly Trance's Deathothic from their In the Red LP.
Favourite track: Decay2 [Nihils' Maw] Master of Alchemy
